Edit Run Execution Tasks

If you have created a run execution task but need to change something, you can edit the task before it is approved.

Note that this page concerns only tasks on the Configuration tab of a run. You can create other tasks on the Tasks tab that are not affected by the run itself.

When You Can Make Changes

You can make changes to run tasks until they are in the status In Review or later. Note that changes to allocated tasks may mean they get reallocated. You cannot edit canceled tasks.

How To Edit a Task

To edit a task, follow these steps:

  1. In the run view, click the plan.

  2. Click the task that you want to edit.

  3. Click ✎ Edit.

  4. Make the necessary changes.

  5. Click Save.

What You Can't Do

Two fields are never editable in run tasks:

  • Task type – This is always set to Test Execution.

  • Time Estimate – This is set based on the plan. To edit the estimate, update the plan.

What You Can Do

Remove Plans from a Run

You can only remove plans from a run when the run is in a Draft state. Once the run is scheduled, you can no longer remove plans and should cancel the task.

To remove a plan, follow these steps:

  1. In the run view, click the plan that you want to remove to expand it.

  2. Click ?️ Remove.

Add Additional Devices/Testers or Builds

To add more devices or builds to a plan, follow these steps:

  1. In the run view, select all of the plans where you want to add devices/testers or builds.

  2. Click Add builds or Add people or devices.

  3. Add what you want and click Add.

Cancel a Task

If you need to make changes to your compiled testing team, you can do so by cancelling an allocated task. Follow these steps:

  1. In the run view, click the plan.

  2. Click the task that you want to cancel.

  3. Click Cancel.

Cancelling a task with an allocated tester sends an email to the tester informing them of the cancellation. The tester is no longer able to start working on the task or continue already-started work. Any testing results are lost. To re-allocate a tester from one plan to another, add them to the new plan before cancelling the original task. Tasks cannot be cancelled after a tester has already submitted work.

Edit Allocated Tasks

When a task is In Progress or Ready to Start, it is allocated to a tester. Changes are still possible, but may require the task to be reallocated.

Tasks are reallocated if:

  • The start date changes by more than 2 hours.

  • The testing window is decreased (for example, the due date is moved 1 hour earlier).

In these cases, testers are notified and the tasks are reallocated.
